iTunes Tools

Find Tracks Without Artwork

Find Tracks without Artwork is a little tool to serve one purpose: Search the iTunes Music Libary for tracks that do not have a cover Artwork, and create a Playlist.

There are 2 functionally identical Versions: Version 1.1 is a JScript running on Windows Scripting Host and Version 2 is a stand-alone Windows Executable. You can choose either version as they do the same thing.

I've tested it with pretty much every iTunes (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10) and Windows Version (2000, XP, Vista and 7 32 and 64-Bit) and it should normally work with every upcoming Version, unless Apple fundamentally changes the COM-Interface.

Note: In more recent iTunes Versions it is possible to create a Smart Playlist and select "Has Artwork: is false" as filter which should do the same, but I haven't compared it.

Thank you! Where do I donate? Very, very helpful; worth a contribution!

Hi. Thanks for this. My library is huge and it is a pain that some tracks have no artwork. It's good that it is windows as well becuase most times I track apple script things that, of course, don't work.

KlausJune 14th, 2009 at 08:38

Cooool!!!! Works great and does exactly what it says on the tin. Thanks a lot!

RobJuly 8th, 2009 at 21:48

BRILLIANT.

Genius! Awesome job!

troyAugust 30th, 2009 at 06:55

this would be awesome if I could scan my ipod as opposed to my library

mstumSeptember 2nd, 2009 at 16:43

Yeah, sadly Apple is a bit overprotective when it comes to their iPod/iPhone and data access to it.

iamtotusSeptember 20th, 2009 at 21:57

This thing is awesome. It does exactly what it says, perfectly. I've been looking for something like this forever.

warpyb1September 25th, 2009 at 15:11

smooth!

iTunes 9.1 = Interface not supported. Any updates planned?

mstumSeptember 28th, 2009 at 18:50

That's strange, I just tested it with my iTunes 9.0.1.8 and it works fine. Which version do you use? (Help > About iTunes) And which operating system?

SteveOctober 13th, 2009 at 19:14

Another vote for iTunes 9.0.1.8. (on Win Xp Pro)

Many thanks Michael. Took less than two minutes to scan over 8000 tracks and produces a nice playlist which appeared immediately in iTunes.

JohnOctober 24th, 2009 at 08:42

Many thanks. Does exactly what it says and in a very elegant manner. Perfect!

VaughnNovember 28th, 2009 at 12:09

300 to go!

Very useful tool. This is something worth paying for.

KevinJanuary 29th, 2010 at 21:10

thanks a lot -- this is really cool! i don't know how much harder it would be to program, but it would be REALLY nice if it created a smart playlist so that it automatically updates itself. other than that, though, great job!

Thanks a lot for this wonderful little program. I very useful tool to have. My I Tunes Library is over 20,000 songs, and I Tunes seems to lose album art a lot. It is easy enough to find sources for art, finding which tracks and albums have missing art is the hard part. This little jewel scanned my library in about 3 or 4 minutes. Bravo.

mstumJanuary 30th, 2010 at 01:55

Kevin: If iTunes could do that in a Smart Playlist, there wouldn't be any need for this program :) I see no good way to keep this up-to-date automatically without something heavy like a service that runs all the time.

Glad you have use for it :)

For some reason this app scans my collection and tells me I have 130 songs without artwork, but does not tell me WHICH songs have no artwork....

DamienMarch 8th, 2010 at 02:18

Ah, it lists it IN itunes... ok, silly me.

JamesJune 5th, 2010 at 16:02

Amazing. So simple and saved me hours of trawling through. Thank you so much.

ToddAugust 20th, 2010 at 15:32

Great tool....thank you so much!

MOctober 7th, 2010 at 15:07

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for! thanks : )

JoeOctober 17th, 2010 at 17:24

As everyone says....this is one great little program. Just tried it after updating to iTunes 10 and it worked perfectly. Just found 130 out of over 28,000 songs missing artwork. I'd never find those without your program.

Unlike some programs that stop working with a new update. Why this isn't already an integral part of iTunes, only Apple knows.

mstumOctober 17th, 2010 at 18:03

Actually, iTunes 10 supports this, no idea when they added this: New Smart Playlist => Has Artwork => is false.

ReneOctober 31st, 2010 at 18:30

This software is great, and anyhow whether they added it to itunes. This one was there before and it works until today.

JayJanuary 8th, 2011 at 10:44

Brilliant application, thanks for your dedication !!

SamMay 20th, 2011 at 05:18

Worked perfect!

Thank so much
